Ate at Cody's in The Villages. Felt like I was in a factory! Very noisy..server in a rush to get order in...and the order came out wrong and, the meals didn't come out together. Everything is heavily spiced and they insist on putting the creamy garlic salad dressing on when I asked for a plain salad with oil on the side. Food just okay, but I expected more. I asked for wine - Riesling - as listed on the menu..didn't have it. Asked for Zinfandel, got that and it was awful...tasted liked vinegar. They also do not have a gluten free menu. I now live in the Villages, but won't go back to Cody's.

Good food good service. Flys around the table were annoying but the food was very good.

very poor service, all orders wrong, they took the food to fix it and after one hour waiting the manager was sitting on two chairs, one for his bud one for his legs and was not interested to do anything. Server should lern to write, he mixed up the two tables next to us too. very very bad

I was skeptical, but service was friendly, salad was great and my ribeye was pretty good and cooked the way I wanted it (mid rare). It's definitely a great value.

Ready to spend a $1,000 on dinner! Went with my family of eight for an anniversary dinner. Waited for 50 minutes for table. When our table was almost ready, one of the owners (Alan) cut in front of us with his party of seven. Then we waited for another 50 minutes for table. (I would of left but my family wanted to stay). After asking a few times for the owner, a manager finally asked me what he could do. He asked what was going on and promised to make our night good, but in the end did not do anything to make our dinner better. You would expect at least a comp drink or something because of the treatment. They don't care about service because the place is packed! Sooner or later that will catch up to them. Our waitress was just ok, she had an attitude like I don't care about what you order, but it reflects in the tip. The food and prices were good. Unfortunately, all the events that led up to dinner results in very very bad marks. I will never return to this establishment again.

Cody's has great food and the atmosphere is electric. So many great dishes, and the live entertainment makes taking friends there a blast. In addition the owners have been great supporters of various organizations, including Habitat for Humanity which takes volunteers there to eat and celebrate.

Such as shame because it's a fun atmosphere and great setting. Salad fab - but that's it. Chef forgot about the crab legs at some point this afternoon. They were so over cooked that it truly was a fight too eat them. And so not worth it in the end. Service was polite but almost non existent - for us anyway. We ended up asking other servers for help more often than not. Spoke to manager in the end because apparently our meals were meant to come with a dessert as well - which we were never offered. The manager didnt seem bothered at all about our experience - or the loss of any future business apparently. Sad really.

I can't complain, despite several missteps by the bar staff. Secret here is for a quick and much less expensive meal use the bar menu. 1/4#burgers (no variations) are hand formed patties, nice bun $2.58. Sweet potato fries came out cold. I hear the house salads are a deal and are refillable sometime the same day! Milkshakes are $2.98 but watery... I'll come back for the burgers and try the salad.

Previous visits have been enjoyable but today was the pits. Service was slow, order was incomplete. We even had to track down our server to get the bill. Probably my last visit.

This was the worst meal we have had in years. I don't know how this place is so busy and popular. Even the kids food was awful. Ordered a salad and soup even to keep it safe and they both were bad. The others ordered steak and ate half and didn't take it home. Never again!

Visiting my parents from Chicago and stopped in after a VERY long day at Legoland. We were sat quickly but waited a bit for server. He took our order and delivered our drinks. He mumbled something about the "endless" salad that came with some of the dinners but not all for $3 additional. It wasn't clear so when we ate all of the large salad presented to the table, he gave us the rundown again and we passed. Food came out and my wife's trout was good as well as my father's. My chicken sandwich with avocado was terrible! It was dry, burnt and horrible. The fries that came with it were cold, soggy and underdone. We'll be here for another week but I will make sure I do not come here again.

Last night we had a dinner here, the atmosphere is casual with peanuts in buckets. We dined during Happy Hour (11 AM - 7 PM) and all the drinks are 2 for 1, which they bring at the same time. This is during spring break and the place was busy, we had a 20 minute wait for our table, you can stroll outside to look at the picturesque Lake Sumter. The portions are huge, each entree comes with a communal salad bowl your table. The cinnamon almond butter for the rolls is very tasty. We shared the 1/2 chicken ribs pulled pork platter and still had leftovers. The meals also come with cole slaw and baked beans. The succulent chicken was cooked very well, the ribs were good, the pulled pork was not good. Service was spot on, despite being slammed, our waitress was attentive. I would definitely return here.

Lunch with parents . Had chicken fried chicken. Issue here was that I had food on plate still big mashed potatoes on plate. Server took it away and was not finished. Had to say something manager offered new one but at this point don't need a take out when will not be wanting it. Some bland food today as Mother had to return onion soup that was watery. 2 stars might be generous. Salad was decent

Tonight was my second visit to Cody's. On both occasions it was average at best. Tonight our server, Dave, seemed more interested in the tv, rather than serving his section. My Patron margarita was almost all mixer, and came out half cold, and half room temp, meaning the bartender didn't even attempt to mix it. Then as far as food goes, my boyfriend ordered the half chicken which was dry. I ordered the filet with fried shrimp. I ordered the steak mid rare, and it came out raw. The shrimp came out dark brown and so over cooked I could hardly chew them. And my filet was wrapped in bacon for no reason. I'm not a huge bacon fan, and I didn't order it that way. I had the plate sent back, and it was fixed. I just can't understand how it was sent out in the first place when it it was so clearly wrong. Not sure if I'll return or not. So far I'm unimpressed

Steak ordered med rare, came well done... Ordered it again and the manager brought the next one back with an apology... this time it was seared and raw.... he apologized again and I asked him to cook it again and put it in a box (for the dogs no way I'm gonna eat it after sending it back twice). Server and manager were both nice, hostess could have cared less when seating the group... but honestly, the chef should be able to cook a steak less than a half inch thick. Just visiting my 90 year old grand father... I won't be back...

What an amazing waste of time and resources!! There are about 7 "hostesses" crowded around a podium and no one can greet guests? I guess they're too busy being catty toward one waitress while secretly coveting her boyfriend. Or maybe they're weeding through the rabble of people throwing peanuts on the floor, trying to ascertain who among the great unwashed is the best tipper. Newsflash, girls: if you treated your guests better, they'd tip you more! But, I guess it's due to leadership, or lack thereof. When a manager tells the hostess to seat one server three or four parties simultaneously, before seating another server three or four parties simultaneously, and doesn't hire enough busboys to clean more than one section at a time... You get Cody's Original Dipshit Dash. But, hey, when the food comes, it's really good. So, if you can hold out for an hour or so while your waitress gets slammed and while the biddies at the podium laugh, you'll get a good meal.

    (1)
  • Cora A.

Food ok, pretty dirty inside...I know the peanuts are free but can they just clean the shells up off the floor when people are finished??

I would give them 0 stars if I could. I use to really enjoy this place about a year ago, they actually cared. Now, I can't even believe it. They must of gotten new management or something. The server was "ok" at best but the food was pretty damn bad. First of all, they just couldn't seem to get a simple cheeseburger right, brought it out black and it tasted horrible. The last time we went and the food wasn't to your liking, they would fix it and then take it off your bill. Nope, not anymore. So the manager brought a new burger with the cheese not even slightly melted. At this point we thought whatever fine. Oh, and the fries were mush. The first batch of rolls (which is normally my favorite part) was cold and not even close to fresh. We didn't say anything about that either. It was a Friday evening and the place was very busy but that's no excuse for one bad item after another and for the manager to act like he even didn't even care. A bit later I asked for another "fresh" batch of rolls. Hence FRESH in there? The server goes oh sure, I'll be right back. About 10 minutes later, She brings me half cooked doughy cold shit rolls. The WORST I have ever seen, I couldn't even believe my eyes. There's a difference when you have one thing go wrong and it gets fixed but for one thing after another and for them to not really give a horses ass? I haven't had a bad restaurant experience like that in quite sometime. The server got a lovely .40 cent tip. We won't be returning.

The food was ok. I got a cobb salad, and my mom got a salad with fried chicken. I ordered a cup of soup, but I don't think it was put in because it didn't come out with the salads or before. It was brought right out when I asked. I'm from MA, which is not known for overly friendly people. However, I have noticed that many waiters and waitresses are borderline rude. I am used to much friendlier servers. Our waitress was on par with others that I've had, so maybe it's me. However, she brought us our bill before we had even finished eating. She asked if we wanted anything else first, and we thought she just meant a drink. We are accustomed to our plates being cleared and being offered coffee or dessert before a check is given. Our waitress did say there was no hurry, but we felt rushed. Again, maybe that's how it is in the area. I'd go back to try one of the entrees because they looked yummy.

We ordered wings for appetizer and fillet mignon. The place was packed, and service was ok. It's noisy, and we waited a bit longer for our food. By the time I was done eating, my cousins ordered haven't arrived yet.

I was at Cody's last night for my 8th or 9th visit. I was showing the other couple dining with us how to get reviews of a restaurant, looking up Cody's for their perusal. I couldn't believe the negative reviews and comments, one of which was longer than a doctoral thesis. OK, so it's not a 5 star, posh place. It's a place to get good food at a reasonable price. The service person ( NIKI ) was polite, friendly and prompt with everything. I suggest the nattering nabobs of negativity go elsewhere to eat as this will cut down on the wait time to get a table.

  • Mike A.

The double cheese burger and bun is total crap! The amount of cheese couldn't fill two thimbles and the bun was so dry it was about to catch fire from the guy smoking a cigarette next to me! The only reason I gave Cody's two stars is because of the entertainment.

  • Sharon V.

For atmosphere and service, this place certainly deserves 4 stars. Sadly, for the food, I give them only 3. I ordered the onion ring appetizers to share with our table and for my entree, I ordered the BBQ ribs with my one side being mixed veggies. Just visiting Texas earlier this month, I know what good BBQ taste like and this didn't deliver. These ribs were not tender and were a bit on the dry side. I had to ask for extra BBQ sauce to give it more flavor. Their sauce was tasty but it wasn't anything special. The onion rings were also a miss for me. The batter didn't stay on the onion rings and fell apart on you. It wasn't fun to eat so I only had a couple and it was way more than I should've had. There were several left so that's a sign that they were easy to resist. My husband ordered their classic burger and thought it was also ok. A great place to come but expect the food to be about average and you'll be happy with your visit.

Good atmosphere for a bar. Got a burger here for like 2 bucks. Oh, word to the wise, when you order an onion ring, it literally is this huge thing that you really could only eat like one or two of. So don't go crazy and think you'll need more than 2. I promise, it'll be enough for you.

Please don't get the meatloaf. Went with 3 other people and they liked their meals all except the meatloaf. I have no idea what it was and texture seems to have some nonfood fillers ground into it. I could not eat it, I tried determine what I was eating and the closer I looked the more convinced I was that this is not a food item. I had other meals there and enjoyed them but not this one. Please don't get the meatloaf...

Ryan's quality steak said the husband of his tbone. I had the seafood trio. Scallops and shrimp very good but had to send back the lobster tail - not cooked long enough. Brought it back rubbery. Also baked potato was not done all the way. Onion ring appetizer was very good as was the salad. Mojitos were pretty good too. Overall food just okay but so nice sitting outside by the water listening to live music.

The bar area staff is pleasant, when they choose to look your way. Not looking at you seems to mean you aren't there so no need to ask if you'd like service. Lack of competition, decent food and lots of area residents sure saves the day. Stay in the restaurant area

  • Lindsay S.

Um. Yeah. I love any "roadhouse" restaurant (Texas, Logan's, etc), but this one was terrible! Someone in my party got a flat beer and had to send it back. Then, everyone's food arrived except for mine - I had ordered a chopped steak salad. We all sat there waiting, and I eventually told everyone else to eat. When the waitress finally returned 10 minutes later she said - "Sorry, we ran out of salad. The manager is going to a restaurant across the street to get some." Um... Wait.... What? First of all, you run out of "lettuce," not "salad." Forget the fact that a restaurant should probably never run out of a basic item like lettuce (?!?!?) for a second... Does this mean I have to wait for the manager to get back, and then I have to wait while someone makes a steak salad? Does the steak still have to be cooked? Is it already cooked and sitting there? Either way, I didn't even want it anymore. The rest of my party had already been eating for 10 minutes. I said "forget it" and ate the rolls, and ate off a friend's plate instead. NO SERVICE RECOVERY was offered whatsoever. No "I am so, so sorry, can I bring you anything else on the house" etc. They didn't charge us for the steak salad, of course, but no other discount was offered and like I said, no service recovery. We didn't make any sort of scene and we seriously could have. I'm not a very picky person, but is it picky to ask to receive food in a restaurant? This place is lucky that the majority of their clientele consists of an older crowd from The Villages that likely won't frequent Yelp or read this review anyway.

I tried twice to order draft beers before our server said to ignore the menu as they don't have at least half of them. Ordered Patty Melt (special) and was asked how I'd like my patty cooked so I became optimistic and said medium. It arrived quite well done between to vey thick slabs of plain white thick bread, accompanied by some gooey American cheese and a rumor of grilled onions. I've never before seen a melt on anything but Rye bread and with Swiss cheese and copious caramelized onions. 2 stars because the beer was 2 for 1. Service was comparable to the food. Just moved to the area, will keep looking for a local favorite place.

Headed here for lunch. I had been to a location in St. Pete several months ago and had really enjoyed it, so I decided to try this one. I was not disappointed. I ordered prime rib, medium rare. It was tender, but even though it was marked as medium rare, it came out more as medium. It might have been just the cook on duty; however, next time I'll ask for medium rare. My husband had a pulled pork sandwich which he gave a positive review. We did not order alcohol, but several months ago, I had a Margarita and it was well worth it. We split a piece of pecan pie for lunch. We told the waitress it was my birthday but as far as we know, the restaurant does not do anything special for birthdays. Service was excellent. The restaurant was quite full and there were several big parties and our service was still quick and efficient.

Stopped here after going to the Craft Fair - Salad was good - I have eaten at other Codys and the food was good. The Village Restaurants just do not care what they serve - 1st order the special Pork chops - came out like rubber you couldn't eat them - called the waitress very friendly then ordered the pot roast which was the other special - NOW OPEN A CAN OF DIN TY MORES BEEF STEW AND YOU HAVE THE SAME. At this point ask to speak to the Manager Sandy - she never even apologized for the rotten food only response was should I adjust the bill. I was not looking for an adjustment - but, considering her response I can see I am not the only one complaining about this place. I do not think I will go back.

Stopped by today for lunch about 1:00 PM. They had a 1 hour wait list. Wonder what they're doing wrong. Settled for a lemonaide out on the patio.

A little confusing coming in off the deck, do yourself a favor and go through the front door. The Beer was 2 for 1 till 7PM, the burger was great and the fries were good. Live music and right on the water. Good experience.

  • Mike L.

This place makes some pretty good stuff. Nothing to scream about, and the prices could be a little more competitive. I will say they do a good job on ribs, but here in the south, there are a million other barbecue places that have this place beat. They have a take out special with a whole roasted chicken, veggies, mashed potato, and dinner rolls for two, all for $10.00. I wouldn't go here on a weekend without being prepared to wait, and if it's snowbird season I'd add another 45 minutes to that wait.

Great place, easily one of my favorite for "burger and a beer". The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff is incredible. The value and quality of the food is amazing.

Great place for sports. The bar menu and happy hour are excellent. The $1.98 burger is made from ground steak and is very good. Sit at the bar for the special menu.

  • Marilyn H.

A very fun bar you can order the onion rims one at a time and burger at the bar is $2, so for less than $10 you can have 2 cocktails a burger and onion rings!

The "Bar" menu was a recent discovery of mine. Good food and snacks at a reasonable price. You have to be seated at the bar to use the bar menu.

OK, so maybe this place isn't traditional BBQ and I'm definitely not their intended clientele (vegetarian over here), but I had a deliciously fun experience at Cody's. Our waiter was very accommodating to my strange requests for multiple sides and toppings, and even came back to check that he got everything that I ordered. He even gave me and my friend FREE beer (probably because we are rare 20-somethings in the Villages)! Get the cute blond male waiter with the mohawk!
